I recommend making a book instead. Those cases don't impress.
- A bound book? lulu style, or something?baseline_shift
- Yeah, a bound book.monospaced

In many cases, a printed bound book is cheaper than a case. While it's not reusable, it's very impressive.
- Right on. Im going to look into this. That case is like $130. Cheersbaseline_shift

i got a 9 by 12, black. with a handle. had it for at least 5 years. still looking good.

book would be better if you want to send it out.

I tried to make one once... it was a disaster, but fun all the same.
- Funsaster?! Did your prospective employer like it?baseline_shift
- there was a thread here with some girll, i think. who showed how to do it.akrokdesign
- Never used it. It ended up in the bin.dropdown

your case shouldnt be doing the 'impressing'
- good point. The neutrality is what led me in the direction of the above case.baseline_shift
- A Pina Zangaro case is ANYTHING but neutral.monospaced
- yeah - I'd stick with the neutral case then - unless your body of work is ALL themed, then make a themed bookidentity
- every time a prospective employee pulled out a case like that, we rolled our eyesmonospaced
- That bad, huh? Is there something about the case im overlooking? Or is it just that you see them all the time.baseline_shift
- everyone buys them cuz they think its unique...they are cool for sure but they do not stand out, make a book. like identity said below, take aways are always good. and you can send em out if you need to.dewilde

For my last interview I created 5 identical mini-books and gave one to each person interviewing me. It was smaller than 8x10", 36 pages, saddle-stitched and printed at a BPS Reprographics.
They were no doubt impressed, and stoked that they could keep the book. Long story short: I got the job.
I didn't spend more than $200 either. You can sacrifice print-quality if your work is good enough and you interview well. I recommend this to anyone looking for a job.
- a "take-away" is a good idea too!identity
- yes, people remember free shit
plus, the book does all the talking for youmonospaced

I always liked this approach:
http://www.effektivedesign.co.uk…- This is beautiful. Not sure I have the money, time, or energy to put something like this together.baseline_shift
- what an asshole... he raised the bar so high I can't even fuckin see it anymorePoint5

yeah, that mailer is pretty amazing...had to be quite the budget though. you know what is a pretty cool easy way is making a book through costco photo book thing. works pretty good and totally customizable

http://www.houseofportfolios.com…
so many options and different prices, from cheap standard reasonable stuff to really fancy.
I make all my books there, they keep your info on file so you just re-order , they ship anywhere.total pro's
- I would really like to see their product in person... their shit site just kills me eyes everytimePoint5
- Ambushstudio0
The site is pretty bad I know... but they're solid. They're a standard in the industry, everyone gets their stuff from them, (fashion phorography at least) and I know from many designers and other peeps that go for them.

I always wanted to try this idea:
Get an over sized briefcase. Inside just have 13 x 19 print outs of your work, loose-leaf, that are organized like you would regular portfolio. Make sure the pages are down and the briefcase is opened toward you - so when you flip the page over, there is hopefully this "aha" reveal moment.
Then again, I always wanted to go into an interview in JUST a towel and carry my portfolio and boombox with me. Turn the chair so the back faced the interviewers and straddle it AC Slater style. put the boombox and portfolio up on the table. Hit play on the boombox. Out comes the sultry sounds of Lionel Richie's "Hello". If youre good, you can pace the portfolio to last exactly the length of the song.

Be sure to give a come-hither look when doing this...
