Be is good Cheap, fast and pretty reliable (17.50/month)., no life long contracts, just 3 months notice to say bye (or 50 quids to fuck them off)

I'm with BE and they're great, like Autokern says, v.fast connection and they're customer service is good too.

^^ for gaming i'm thinking bethere is the way to go - that or virgin for decent pings... most uk isps use interleaving - which can add 30ms to your ping plus.net take 2 months to disable it at request (if at all) on bethere unlimited it's an option in the cp.
what's the craic with virgin? been considering getting them in the new house...

if you plan on using P2P - *cough for leagal purposes* I'd steer clear of virgin. They reportedly throttle back bandwidth for torrents and other peer to peer.

I use file sharing for legitamte work purposes, sending files back and forth from the office and other servers securly. I also use it for online gaming, the trouble is that in the evenings i get hit with line contention and the connection drops below 1MB. so if i am kicking ass on CoD then my flatmate cant stream media the one of us lags.
I am supposed to be on 10MB which I have came close to a couple of times but if im recieving files early or very late at night i can get up to 8mb speed but it quickly cuts me back to 1 or 2, VERY annoying.
there have been multiple instances of having 'a problem with the line', I'm talking every month without fail. Then being passed about on the phone by less than efficient staff who can only read a script and then pass you on until you tell them that you dont want to, they then all tell you the same thing and i could probably recite thier 'hard and soft reboot procedure'.
Had enough of virgin; fucking terrible service.
Not to mention that thier TV / demand service is slower than a week in jail.
- just ordered bethere myself, ddn't work out that much more than the mid range virgin package (incl bt line rental)kingsteven

Be.Unlimited - good ping, no u/d-load restrictions, scalable options.
First ISP I've ever had that I've not had any real reason to complain about (aside from a slightly non-standard way of setting up the router, but hey).
Fuck Virgin, really - if you spend any amount of time on the internet beyond that which your parents might invest, you want a proper ISP. Virgin et al just don't cut it,
