If you're making over $10,000 then you need to claim it, if you under $10 grand then don't worry about it. But I would put away 30% of every project just incase.

Have you taken any classes?

What about existing things within credit card statements? Can you print out credit card statements as receipts?

I will probably make over 10k this year. I mean I hope so if not I will be HUNGRY.
I graduated from college, but I have not taken classes since then.. ?

Yah, I use Amex year end statement where it breaks down everything for you.

So essentially, if it is on my credit card, I don't have to keep receipts?
Please say yes. Receipts are gross.

You should try to keep them but you still need to keep receipts.

Services like Mint also helps to break down your expense. In any case, you only really need receipts if you get audited. But you never know when you will get audited.

OR
I am starting to use quickbook since most credit card companies have downloadable quickbook files.

So this isnt about Texas for freelancers?

Quickbooks is great stuff. But I've got a business.
Accountant was fine until things got bigger.
I am with JSK - all business expenses go through a biz account and are on one AMEX card.
If you do your own taxes you are taking your life in your own hands! Really, $300 or so is nothing compared to the time savings, piece of mind and savings you'll get.

I use it for saving receipts. Just make sure you have a backup of it and you're good to go.- Does it work well? I saw this when it wasnt yet released
