thats my thoughts too, forwarded this link round everyone at company and said "we need this new DIN font family".
all the other designers agree, now we got to steal the credit card from the accountant without him knowing ;) shhhhhhhhh!

Its quite unconventional

I personally find DIN to be heavy-handed, clunky, and poorly kerned. The lowercase is particularly ungainly. I think just about any of the common sans families are drawn and constructed in better ways—be it Univers, Gotham, Helvetica, Franklin, Benton, etc. etc...
- All true, yes...Kiggen
- the appeal of DIN for me was always the awkward, utilitarian, industrial qualityRand
- The "clunkiness" in part of the aesthetic, although I agree that some of the versions could be better constructed.ukit
- If I want industrial, I'd go for something like Klavika...Scotch_Roman
- Klavika is more "conscious" looking, whereas DIN seems like the byproduct of some alternate agendaRand
- which lends a certain authentic charm, IMORand

I don't think it's necessarily interchangeable with those other faces though. Din has its own personality which is different from those....although if there is a better drawn face out there in the same vein I'd love to see.

it's the lowercase "l" and "a" that make me fall in love with din
- Mau0
I am not a huge fan either but I don´t think you can compare it with other usual sans serif faces....its to arbitrary.
It works well for clinics, electric- energy- chemical- medical- etc companies, or for german freeways ;)

rounded has many, many uses.

Do you guys have an opinion on best version of Din? They are all pretty different.

- I don´t have it... I wrote DIN Next with FF Din, ;)Mau
- heheheheRand
- although you don't have it, which do you think you prefer?Rand
- is this a rhetorical question?Mau
- not rhetorical--from comparing them online, I meanRand
- FF DIN.. beautiful alternates.. and also the numbers are lovelyMau

I almost feel like in cleaning it up too much, the industrial charm may be lost
