they all seem to be a bit of a failure. Any examples of great site re-designs?
I would also like to see the following site re-designed, as I think it looks somehow out of date.

.
Rara, sofisticada, compleja, incomprensible, pero gozosa perversión, por fin profundamente satisfecha.

I think the BBC site re-design was pretty good overall. I'm not too keen on the looks of it, but functionality wise it's great.

Always makes me chuckle!
Perfect example that the business world is not about good design (by itself), it is about making an image, marketing and salesmanship as much as anything.
Apparently, and I've never heard him speak, he must be one hell of a salesman.

Hate to say it, but I do like the way Facebook have gone about their re-designs lately. Not sure if anyone has seen them, but before they push a design out, they send a brief to their clients (mostly in the ad space) alterting them of the coming changes. It's a nice touch, allowing for a bit of feedback before it goes live.
VW.com is a nice one that springs to mind...

The Image Galleries on Facebook are great. Love the way you can flick through hundreds of images pretty easily.

CNN's looks a lot like the BBC. Although they literally stripped all the design elements.
Just white boxed with rounded corners on a grey background...- boxes
clearThoughts - everyone uses rounded corners, nothing new thereutopian
- boxes
