Are they any cop? I am going to foray into the world of the Mac, I've used them before but have natively been a PC user. I need a new computer, and was thinking of picking up a Mac, I've been outbid on a Macbook Pro 2.4 17" on Ebay, they seem to be going around 800-900 quid.
Can get an iMac brand new with all the same spec but a 20" monitor at this price it seems, so are they any decent or should I just get a new PC haha

get an iMac,
the design is pretty new, and the hardware got updated a few days ago.

Iv'e had a few and really like them. I got one of the new aluminum ones but sent it back after a week and got a white one on ebay - much better.

24" monitor is way better than 20", not talking about the size but the quality
- is it that much better? ive always worked on a 19" monitor to date so wont miss a 24Hoax
- 20" has problems with the screen, only get a 24"Jnr_Madison
- yea its not size, its a different panel, cheaper, shitter, even shitter than the older 20" onesset

Well for starters the display quality on the white one is so much nicer than the 20" aluminum one, something just felt cheap about it and I was lucky enough to recieve the white one before apple collected the aluminum one for a refund so I got to compare side by side. The aluminum one felt washed out and seemed to have a bit of a gradient from top to bottom in terms of brightness and we don't even need to get into the glossy issue.
For £400 cheaper than 2.4ghz/2gb/250gb aluminum I got a 2.16ghz/3gb/500gb white one.
- although to be honest the gloss wasn't all that bad in terms of glare, depends where you have it thoughset

I've been rocking my 24" iMac for a couple of years now, and it's one of the best Macs I've had. I do recommend a new one.

I've had a 24" iMac for the better part of a year and I love it. I used to be the kind of guy who preferred custom building his PC, but you just can't beat the power, simplicity, and looks of the iMac.

What are the screens on the 2.4ghz 20"? Are they the same as the shit one I have been advised against?

The new Imacs in america just dropped in price and were raised in quality. I'd go with the 24 inch the screen itself is worth the extra 300 dollars. but it includes a better HD and memory.

Hackintosh! I love mine... Q6600 quad-core, cost me $520!

Really not excited by the hackintosh or that other version, I want a mac to escape the circle of shitty PC hardware conflicts etc, not enter back into it! Nice concept, tho I hear the take an age to boot.

Another great thing about the iMac, as superficial as it may seem, is that it has only one cable for power. You'd be surprised how helpful that becomes once you start running out of spots on the power strip for all your other stuff.
