I've been taking a break from freelance for quite some time, but I've decided I should start picking it back up given the current economic situation and the uncertainty of any job. My rates have always been pushing the high side to weed out undesirable clients, but I'm wondering if I'll need to bring them down to be competitive. Have any of you had to adjust your rates to meet with the current situation?

Not yet... ask me in a few months. I think my prices are pretty standard for someone w/ my level of experience.

i give ample time for them to understand the change, I notified through the summer fall and when january showed up, so did the new rates

Didn't adjust my rate but I did just deduct 2k from an invoice for a favor to a client so they wouldn't go over budget. It's one of my bread and butter clients too. Better to do a little ass kissing in this economy so you can get repeat work. If you think you're worth what you're asking, I'd stick to it but just give that little extra that you didn't give before.

Matt, in the middle of last year, a significant hike too. I didn't take into consideration the spike of work that it would create in december while people were "saving money" made for a good christmas with me and the lady
- Yeah, that's why hi hiked my rates way up before. I was getting more work than I could take on.Jugarelly
