I was in an earthquake in japan once.
It woke me up in the middle of the night and I went straight back to sleep not even wondering why the entire house might be shaking. I put it down to my frequent hypogenic hallucinations that I have as a side affect of insomnia. I was quite suprised to find out in the morning...

I didn't even notice the quake, but people in suburbs all around did. Of course, it probably happened in the middle of drills while I was at karate, so it isn't really surprising that we didn't notice it.
