How much does stuff like this 'usually cost', anyone know? I know it's a horrifically vague question, but I'm just trying to get an idea in pricing something up and am looking for ballparks.
If you've done some and know how much it cost to get made, please let me know!
(My piece is about 650mm x 120mm, laser cut opaque white acrylic lettering, for guidance)

So, er.. given the size of my piece, the above picture is a bit useless - but take it as an idea of form.

Why not just email some company for a quote?
- +1 Prob not that expensive. Call some local manufacturersbaseline_shift

say http://www.mcrobb.co.uk/ for starters

- Actually, probably quite a good company to contact, thanks.Nairn

Aye, I know that - I can also pick the brains of a pool of people who are likely to have ordered this thing in the past.
If you don't have an answer, you don't have to answer.
- how are you mounting them?baseline_shift
- On his heidkuttyranks

Mainly - I'm trying to work out whether £80 is a lot or not.
- Perhaps I should've just said that at the start.Nairn
- how many letters?baseline_shift
- 12 letters, so closely tracked as to be one graphic form. Not sure about the mounting, tbh.Nairn

3-5 thousand dollars USD
- would include install.GetRefresh
- For letterage like in the image above?Nairn
- Think how much vinyl lettering costs, then times it by 5/10/15/20kuttyranks
- Yes... 3D letters like above are really expensive. I just put some on a client's building, so I know.GetRefresh

These folks offer a wide variety (both interior and exterior application) plus will custom cut for logos, etc.
For a nominal fee that will provide a pattern which proves invaluable when mounting.
The site has an online estimation tool.

if you are looking for dimensional lettering check out http://www.signletters.com/ (gemini)
They have a lot of them premade. You have to order the letters through a sign shop. some thing like you pictured would probably be ~1200 installed

without seeing the design, knowing the thickness of the Acrylic, or the mounting method you desire, around $175 CDN would be a fair ballpark price.
- kuttyranks0
Its not cheap, 80 buck will get you probably 2 letters

Am I missing something? Shouldn't be more than $100.00 Canadian. 12 letters 1/4" acrylic 4" high?
- magnificent_ruin0
£80 for what? the design? the actual letters? the installation? the vendor supervision?
- the production thereof.Nairn
- what is £80 in $ these days?magnificent_ruin
- you've gotten a bid back and need to know if it sounds reasonable?magnificent_ruin
- about 110$Jnr_Madison
- ahhh, how close, 113$, I am pure win.Jnr_Madison

I did brushed aluminum on 1/8"-thick acrylic, stud-mount, 20 letters 4" tall, plus a logo (12"x12"), interior mount only, installed by me for about $400 USD.

this sort of thing? Custom letters pre made?
- Nairn0
Thanks for all your help, guys - blaw, getRefresh, Kuttyranks, baseline_shift & even Jnr_ and Rand. Ye Blessed.
- "even"?magnificent_ruin
- You were bottom of the list too - I'd rightly be infuriated if I were in your position.Nairn
- chris_himself0
I'd still say $150 - $175 CDN
This is a custom piece, so pricing it from sites that sell individual letters isn't accurate.

You're doing the new signage for Dr. Borchers? Cool! my grandma goes there...

I did something similar with a clients logo but used a brushed aluminum. The price was $2500, for custom fabricated letters and the mark, with installation (the letters were pin-set into a marble wall) costing another $1200.
- I'd side with this pricing. We do a lot of it for real estate projectsMelanie
- Brushed aluminum is WAAAy more expensive than acrylic. And pin mounting is costly, especially off marble.
