you'll like this guys idea .... Personalised Traffic Rules

I know we all break rules when walking/cycling - jaywalking to get to work quicker, I even fanny about on my bmx on the pavement (ran into a policeman one day then got the feck outta there pronto).
I dont have a problem with slow cyclists or bmxers just slowly cruising around using pavements etc as they arent "on a mission".
these guys that shoot the lights are on a mission. They are just as much a danger to pedestrians or other road users as a motorbike or car is. Yes theres less metal and weight to cause carnage, but still a bike hitting you at 30mph+ would make a damn mess.
Theres no answer to this as car drivers are always going to hate hardcore cyclists who hate slower cyclists who hate pedestrians etc.
The thing I would like to see is cyclists being held accountable - so that if you spot a cyclist braking the law (just as you would a driver breaking the law) you can report them.
This would mean that some kind of number plate system would have to be in place as just giving a description of the cyclist wouldnt cut it.
This would be a massive thing to bring into place but it would bring some accountability to cyclists and if they had to sit a test with ROAD LAWS AND RULES in it to make them safer riders.
Failing that - police hidden at junctions famous for red light skippers and coming down really hard on them would be just as effective ;)

I never said i run red lights to get ahead of traffic. getting ahead of traffic is slightly redundant in London since it's so slow to start with. i cycle principally to get to and from work. i know the distance and the time it takes me to do the journey. i run red lights to keep to that time, if and when necessary.and as for slower cyclists, to me they are another danger. as are black cabs (who by far, are the worse drivers in London), speeding bus drivers, people crossing roads without looking, speeding fixed wheel psychos (:-) ...etc.
fuck it, we all break rules, (one of) mine is running red lights from time to time.

Bluejam: You say that you do it because you need to get ahead of the traffic you should be able to run red lights, but what about the cyclists that amble along slowly in either too high a gear or just because they're lazy twats in bus lanes, slowing down the 2 or 3 buses behind them down to 10mph (with 400m of clear bus lane infront of them). Only to run a red light so they can greet the buses behind with their cunt-slow pace once they've crossed the junction?
I'm all for cycling (I'm building a new fixie up at the moment), but someone is cycling on the roads they should follow the rules of the road and not consider themselves exempt just because they don't have an engine. Motorcyclists stop at reds, why shouldn't cyclists?

This is what we should all do...

i run red lights when it's safe to do so. that's my number one rule on this matter. i never run them when people are crossing the road. sometimes i run them all, sometimes i don't. do i care that i'm breaking the law? no. will i continue to do so? yes. why do i do it? *shrugs shoulders* fuck knows, i'm just riding my bike.

pedestrials?
What is that Nairn? A prehistoric bird that walks like a Jay?

Bluejam - A blind man doesn't expect you jump a red light and that's what makes it a crossing. Having exceptions to rules on roads is simply dangerous.
If I had my way I'd issue you all with number plates and fine you at the same rate as drivers. Keep doing it - you should go to jail.

A polite question ....
What gives YOU the right to be able to run a red light when other road users would get SEVERELY prosecuted for doing so?- Cyclists will argue it's to get ahead of the other traffic
FFS, you's already get a little area at the front of the traffic that allows you to get in front of them all waiting (then annoyingly hold everyone up).You can't argue about f*ckwit pedestrians stepping onto the road by the way. The green cross code tells you that you have to drive 100% aware of what other road users and pedestrials may or may not do and have to drive accordingly.
So not only do they have a responsibility to look out for you but you also have a responsibility to look out for and anticipate their actions.- What gives pedestrials the right to 'jaywalk'? The fact that they're not wielding a tonne of speeding metal?Nairn
- ..same goes for cyclists - we're not a significant danger to lesser road users, so we should be able to fight our wayNairn
- through traffic more than the driver of a car would expect the right to.Nairn
- Just because the last 50 years have favoured drivers, doesn't mean that's the Right way to do things.Nairn

cyclists are my biggest hate.
they moan about drivers and drivers moan about cyclists.
however, even as a pedestrian i find myself moaning about cyclists, the amount of times ive about been hit by one!!!yes drivers are c*nts
but it's cyclists that are the biggest c*ntsthe police really should be out there and catching the ones that shoot the red lights, the ones that UNDERTAKE, and the ones that mount the pavements - as they pay no attention to these rules of the road.
If a car driver broke any similar rules in their dailly commute they'd get points or a ban.If im out on foot and I see a cyclist about to shoot a red light on a road im about to cross, i'll speed up my pace so we meet at the same point to TRY to cause an accident lol, or to get a chance to lay a boot into their back wheel and loudly shout out a swearword right in their ear :)
It would be good if there was a site which anyone could post up images of cyclists shooting red lights or on pavements, could be arranged by city, and police could have alook on there, see the pics to get prooof then wait at same junctions (hidden) for them doign it again.

I fucking hate cyclists. I'm gonna totally loose it one day on the Mall and chase the fuckers down it and kick the shit out of them in front of Buckingham Palace tourists and string their severed heads from the traffic lights as a warning to others.
- (organise a cycle-run, cyclists turn up en mass expecting to cycle ... but they all just get kneecapped :)23kon

if the police want to do something that IS pro-active to cut down dangers on the streets then they should be sitting at junctions and lights during commute times and catching cyclists that shoot lights or car drivers that cutup cyclists etc and come down REALLY hard on them.

awesome stuff!
next we should be fining knobs that stop for no apparent reason in front of you on the pavement causing you to have to take evasive action.
we should also introduce slow and fast walking lanes to highstreets (dont laugh - edinburgh was thinking of doing this!). if you are caught in the wrong lane then you should be fined!
This new policy should ensure that old folks and fat c*nts arent in your way when you are trying to get around town.it should be instant knee-capping for the dozy b*stards that walk out of shops not looking where they are going or looking the other way.

"Hardcore Pensioner" is the wrong title for this thread anyway.
It should be:
"Homosexual Pensioner" (as he's on skates!)
All he needs are spandex shorts and a Walkman™
