Anyone ever had to deal with this?
A business my wife worked for last year went under in April. No tax stuff has arrived from them, nor do we expect any given the circumstances of the owners and how fucked up everything there got. I've done some reading on the issue and it seems to say that bottom line is (through a few methods) you have to show that you attempted to get the W-2 from them. For many many reasons I do not want to contact the former owner directly.
I can go the certified letter route, but just wondering if anyone is or has dealt with any of this and if there's anything we should look out for? THx.

get a tax person and just show them the invoice this company paid you.

^i wish it were that organized. Some checks were company checks from a payroll company, some were hand written, and a few instances of cash.

yes, call the IRS 800 number with the name and address you have and explain the situation, they will send a notice to them saying they have x number of days to send it out or they'll get fined.
- Right on, thank you sir.
