If you're good, it will give you a chance to make some more good work.
If you suck, it won't make you good.
Basically, it's a waste of time. But a way to legitimize your wasting time.

I always think people must get really frustrated when they want to go there thinking it's actually IN Miami, FL.

yes! i've seen many kids graduate from the ad school with really bad work. I wouldn't recommend it. If you have the talent, then u have no need to go there. A good way to throw away your money.. Only plus I see would be to get contacts....

i can imagine it looks good on your cv.

digdre, not neccesarily.
You're hiring at a firm, and you see that some kid spent a year at an "Ad School". You flip through his book, and it still sucks...not a good sign.

all design school will teach you the basic. which you need. then the rest is upto you.
now, yes. having art center for example. on the resume. can get in the door but the portfolio is the one that get you the job.

went there. pretty good place if you're into advertising. you'll concept, learn party (hey, its in sobe) but as far as a design school, I'd say don't go. If you're into being an art director or copywriter, then yeah.

I have yet to meet anyone who works in Advertising who went to any ad schools.
- dconstrukt0
I went there and have a LOT of friends from MAS working in agencies all of the world.
good for advertising, bad for design. my experience there.

if you already have talent and know your shit just pop through hyper island in sweden and then you can get in more or less anywhere

Most of people from Hyper Island are talented.

"the school of pop culture engineering..."
* barf *
- gentleman0
also the quality of hyperisland graduates has taken a serious punch in the groin the past couple of years.. fact
- ********0
^ erik, did you take a punch? I mean who punched you? My friends from HI havent told me about groan punching. Maybe I should punch them? Are we obligated now to punch people in groan from HI?
- fate_0
That's because HyperIsland is like a long marketing seminar.
They'll spout phrases like "Interactive Experience" and have business people lecture you. But while HyperIsland might make you a better bullshitter, they won't give you the talent to make a better product....be it design, websites, ads.
- fate_0
And let's be perfectly honest, Erik. You and Jens were talented before you attended HyperIsland. They've been coasting on your talent and reputations for some time now.

^ agreed, I can only think of few people who I think are great such as Erik, Jens and Marcus. There are few others who are good but not great.
