so if wanted to start playing this game I would have to pick up the first iteration and get to the highest level before picking up the second one, right?

I mean seriously, don't do it. It's a life ruining, soul sucking, never-ending downward spiral. I know someone who said quitting it was like giving up drugs at first, but they never felt better than they did after the withdrawl.

I haven't played it, but I've seen it. I believe WoW is for the individuals so low on the social ladder that they can hardly be consider social beings. Creating a fake version of yourself without connection to another human being further worsens the issue, as the user is stuck in a room getting fat playing virtual fucking quests for no reason whatsoever.
I didn't mean the game was "homosexual," but you've got to be pretty "gay" to consider playing something like that. I'm using the teenager's lingo to get the point across.

WoW used to be fun, but it's not the same game anymore. I honestly do not recommend playing it anymore. It's a waste of time, and a waste of your life. I played WoW for almost four years, and never felt better than when I quit playing for good a couple of months ago.
Find a game to play that has an ending, you'll be happier for it.

Also, grinding from level 1 to 80 is fucking grueling and will take the better part of two months or more if you only play it casually.

I tried it... and the verdict is that it sucks. I found the only reason anyone ever played it was to brag/jerk off to the armor they got. It's lame.

I recently leveled my paladin to 80 and enjoyed every bit of it, the Lich King expansion is great. The game has gotten a lot more serious though. The race for epic gear and the need to have good gear to run certain instances has really widened the gap between casual players and serious gamers; the lines have been drawn.
I haven't played for 3 weeks and I don't feel like I'm going through crack cocaine withdrawals, but when I get some free time I'll be back on.
I'm seriously lmao at the comments above as they do apply to some people, but this doesn't apply to me at all. I wish I could tone down my real-life social life.

It's unfortunate that everyone's spent their time offering pointless criticism of how other people spend their time rather than answering your question. The answer is no, you don't need to level up in order to install the two expansions. In fact, the expansions include content, like new races, that you can use right from the beginning.
