Is this a good subject —
'The value of effective Graphic Design, and its use in economic downturns.'
Getting ready for next years task.

Seems OK

hmm...I'm going to need one as well
I haven't a clue as of yet
- ********0
good luck with that one
- Q010
Does this make it easier?
http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/…
How can I adapt the title to make it a little easier?
- ********0
How about.
"Effectiveness of graphic design in economic downturn"
"Economic downturn and impact in graphic design"
"Low cost, high impact: Improving value though effective graphic design in economic downturn"
- attentionspan0
designing success?

Here are a few suggestions-
"LOLcats: The Sodom & Gemorrah of Screen Typography"
"Fuck You, Candy: A Study in Urban Design Memes"
"PedoBear, Portrait of a Misundertood Genius"
"In Defense of Shitting On One's Chest: 12 Months in the Andes Studying Swiss Grids and Coprophagia"

if you are talking about the current recession your thesis will be mainly speculative because you don't have much to analyse.
You could do a retrospective study and look at the situation in previous recessions but again you'll have difficulty finding data.
This is another article that my be of interest - http://www.nesta.org.uk/attackin…

Better subject:
"How to get dollars from clients for design when they are none"
- ********0
Or you can use what I wrote in 90s.
"Post boom dilemma: Cost of design and its effectiveness (comparative study of design practice and cultural importance in Europe, North America and Asia)
- Q010
Another subject I thought of writing on was the current trend for cheap design, those websites where hundreds of designers submit ideas for only $99 or (the worst in my opinion) those that offer 3 or more logos for $50 or so.
I'm not sure on how to word it, I have a lot research on this, I just need that sentence to spark it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks QBN.
- Q010
Oh — Also, how/if the design industry is being affected, and these cheap solutions filling the market with poor design or are they simply filling the void of affordable design for everyone?
- lowimpakt0
what is your research question(s)?
do you have a hypothesis?
those two things are a good start (although you will generally form a hypothesis after your literature review)

Any other students feel free to hijack this thread. :) Lets help each other out here.

^ Others I wrote.
"Proliferation of design: advent of desktop publishing to design access" (Starting from desktop publishing tool and internet with access to pirated software, how design practice has become diluted through access of tools and none-professional labour)
"Globalization of design practice and underlying impact on the profession" (Out sourcing design to cheaper labour cost region)
- The first one strikes a chord. Let me think about this for a sec...Q01

lowimpakt — essentially it comes from the Draplin video I linked to in the other thread — why america is fucked (graphically at least)
Except the poor design he refers to comes from a studio that charged $15,000.

No one will blame you for trying.

You can combine the two of what i wrote above, it makes better composition in argument.
- I popped you an email. :)
Q01 - If you are asking for my papers, sorry I don't publish them nor hand them out. :-)********
- Oops, sorry I missed your response. Apologies.Q01
- No worries. I honestly prefer someone to write some original take on the subject since 10 years since i wrote.********
- blah.. that didnt make sense. :-)********
- I understood. :)Q01
- I made parallelism of programming & design in most. You can apply the same theory in both.********

All of them have an underlying argument of quality vs cost and quantity. Examine of business models and structures of the business that relay on subjective quality and fundamental sustainability.
