aye sometimes i do just go on a rant, its meant as banter but there is an underlying annoyance that a lot of scots feel and thats the news reporting for the "UK" on the tv is basically just english news.they seem to be selective in what they cover. e.g if london has bad snow then the whole of the uk has to hear about it nonstop.
mind you, they did mention it was -18 in aviemore on the news this morning - maybe it was the scottish news bit.
When England win at anything it's ENGLAND that won! When Scotland win something its the UK that won.
The worst cases of this was back when English football hooligans used to cause trouble everywhere they went - this would be reported by the English news as UK football hooligans.i stress it IS just poking banter and not any anti-english/london lol. I do like london and go down at every opportunity to stay with my wee bro for random long weekends.
If you want racism ... speak to the taxi driver I got on friday. F*ckinghell! Entertainment yes, but there was an underlying seriousness to what he was saying :S

or is it the general public's insatiable appetite for 24/7 news and entertainment that causes the stations to jump on every human interest story and milk it till everyone implodes with indifference?
it's a vicious circle of ennui, and I for one am getting Outrage Fatigue.
- So true. I stopped watching the news and reading the paper about 6 months ago. What I need to know filters down.MrOneHundred

I remember when I was a little lad and we would get a foot of snow overnight. It was forecast... but the difference then was that is was almost celebrated - "Oh, great... snowmen, sledging" etc. Everyone just got up as normal, shovelled it off their driveways and got on with life.
Now the media has turned it into an excuse to put something on the news everyone starts panicking and it's a national disaster. Fucking idiots. It's TV that is to blame for this, it's nothing to do with the actual weather.

I love it how people complain about England "grinding to a halt" when we are hit with a snow.
They obviously have NO idea why the country has "ground to a halt" and just followed the media hype and regurgitating the same facts.
You should understand WHY public transport was cancelled and WHY the motorways were at a standstill

kon you frequently sound totally bitter about the English and London in particular, although oddly enough, whenever there's a 'what to do in London' type thread or similar, you are happy to pipe up with your wordly knowledge.
I'm sure it's all good banter but it does come across as if you have a chip on your shoulder.

I'm sat on a BA plane at Edinburgh airport right now - been boarded for a couple of hours and they're still trying to fix the defrosting machine (!?) so they can de-ice the wings.
*Twiddles thumbs*
- Surely they could just splash some buckfast over them and that would do the trick?max_prophet

MrOneHundred, sadly we've not had snow like we had last night for ages, years it seems, i can remember winters when young and you'd get days off school to play in the snow. Thats what its like today :)
Sadly I was able to get into work lol.Chossy, Just having a moan that is all :P
Thats well bad phatlee, good to hear you got home safe though. Snow was pretty heavy last night likes and think it took everyone by surprise.

I thought it snowed there all the time.

defo, I love the way that england freezes to a stand still, its like being in spain at midday everyone goes for a kip... when in rome!
- Horp0
Hahaha, so true though.

Last night flying back from Manchester to Edinburgh, we ended up circling Edinburgh for 3hrs waiting for them to clear the runway. The snow was too bad to land so we ended up landing in Glasgow just sfter midnight. There was no transport organised, no staff at all and I ended up sharing a cab with some strangers, costing us £100!! What a rip off, and when we eventually get back to Edinburgh the snow isn't even an inch deep. Pathetic!!!

Kon, what the fuck is your problem?. Honestly your comments sound like they come straight out of one of the Scottish 'Red Tops'.

OMFG!
Scotland is covered in snow today - we are all going to die, it's going to bring the country to a grinding halt, no food will be able to be delivered to shops and emergency services will not be able to get to people to save them from the big freeze!Yes, that was a sarcastic rant in response to the end-of-the-world-fearing news reports from when england had a couple of inches snow last week.
This week it's scotland's turn. However, after a few false alarms / inaccurate weather reports last week where we were warned we'd get snow but got none, this week there were no warnings yet we've got really bad snow.
And because the snow isnt down in england and it's just pissing with rain down there - guess whats all over the weather reports this morning ..... yup ... the english moaning about the rain.
