Yeah this is terribly terribly sad. The photos show how complete the destruction was, there's just nothing left of some of these places. When it makes it into the township and it starts hitting gas cylinders, there's not much hope. Poor bastards.

They are keeping the arson aspect pretty low-key at the moment, I guess they need to establish the death toll and also get the investigation underway without compromising the “presumption of innocence”. The PM is calling it mass murder.

Unfortunately, arsonists that light fires that cause a loss of life can only face up to a maximum penalty of 25 years. (and only increased from 2 years to 15 years for not lethal fires in 2006).
Really, these morons should be treated with the same disdain as terrorists.

Just watching this on the news, they were saying about how firefighters managed to get one fire under control, only for it to be deliberately re-lit by someone.
These arsonists are murderers.
