Wow, everyone who commented this thread is either really miserable or to snug and pretentious say something nice.
Or both, I guess.

get a cement mixer & fill it with pebbles
add the t-shirts
the tumbling action & friction
with the stones will tenderize the cotton

use a nail file if it's just one offs.
I personally think this is a relevant design thread (pun).

^ then go and buy vintage and stop wasting our fucking time

this is for one-offs...nothing going into mass production, all one of a kind shirts....

woah, you're gonna scrape down cotton tshirts with a razor blade to make them thin? these are one-offs? or for production?

Get your dad to buy the shirt in 1972 and wear it often until it's not cool anymore. Then get him to lock it up for you until the 'time is right'.

enzyme wash is common to soften inks and fade color

Wear it for about fifteen years.

HI LOVELY PEOPLE,
ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY TIPS/SECRETS ON distressing t-shirts to make the cotton really soft and thin? i've read about techniques from soaking the t-shirt cotton in vinegar for 3 days, etc.
anyone know anything about a special acid bath for making the cotton really thin?
or better yet techniques not involving liquids/soaking? any shredding techniques/ideas?
anything? i'd TRULY appreciate any and all feedback! xoxo
