The companies that do this aren't the ones who go to design firms anyway.

There are a few websites that do the same exact thing for years now, nothing new here!

Very sad.
But let the sheep mingle with the other sheep. Us wolves'll thin out the herd.

"They are working to democratize a snooty business..."
Sure it's a fuckin' snooty business. So is engineering, or medicine, or law. It's a business for professionals, do you want me building the next ford SUV frame because I thought I got a good idea while I was taking a shit at my full time design job?

Replace "design" with "hookers" and you got something, though.

@brains; every industry will be like this soon. This site works by allowing the masses to participate thus allowing saturation to filter. Best idea wins in this world now and I am happy that it is moving in that direction. Unfortunately this will make us work that much harder. If you think you’re working a lot now. Imagine doing a call for entrees everyday and still not able to pay them bills.
on a side note this is great for students who need that portfolio building process. In law, you have the ambulance chaser, in medicine you have the “discount” practices and in engineering, the field is littered with failed and sometimes life taking builds.
Just my two cents ...
- you're obviously not working your ass off for a low salary, if we were paid like lawyers, i'llGeorgesII
- say nice, but this is plain stupid.GeorgesII
- every industry that involves pirated software, yes. Cracked CS4 won't win at court.jimbojones
- Your 2 cents comes with change. :)ETM

Seems to me that even a great logo is worth 300 bucks if someone just threw together one comp, kicked it out the door and that was that. The real bucks comes from having people who actually know how to help implement your brand and get your shit in order.

The difference is that as in architecture, it is hard to replicate. Graphic design, everything can be replicated easily.

that's bullshit. a huge spec work slave shop. Only difference is these designers don't get paid for 99% of the work they do.
great way to devalue our industry even more.

I feel sorry for the designers participating and getting taken advantage of and the designers that are losing projects because of this. And this guy who makes a lot of money wants two logos for $300...

Designing a logo can't be that hard, here's a buck. Whoever makes the logo bigger, gets the buck.

300 for a logo? i wouldn't spend more than 1 minute on it.
You might win a contest and make some quick cash but think of the amount of hours you spend on the designs that don't win.

http://www.guru.com/ is older. Maybe in Forbes its advertising

I was taught the industry standard for a logo is $1000. Thats because logos are mad eto be applied to signage, ads, stationary and the truth of the matter is a company can get several years use out of the logo.
The problem is not this website, but people that don't value design, or designer's time as something worth paying for.

I am not threatened at all by stuff like this because good decision makers understand the quality of personalized work and meeting your designer first-hand or at least working directly with them. This is partly why I am not crazy about Agency work its basically the same thing but you work in their office instead of on their website.
