Anyone know of any fixes for creating say a dropdown menu with a transparent dropshadow as a PNG, which would work in all browsers?

You are going to have some problems due to PNG's not working in IE and the hack does not work as BG images. I did find a solution but never got it working. Hang on...

Wouldn't the work be a better place without IE?

I find the IE6 javascript fix to be a bit jankey, but maybe it'll work OK for you. If it's not too much work, what I do these days is just give IE6 users 8 bit PNGs. It doesn't look as good, but I only need a bit of CSS and frankly, they don't deserve my nice transparencies.

I don't think there is any solution that works really well most of the time. I have tried various things and couldn't get most of them to work. I either end up changing the pngs to jpgs and try to get the colours right, or I make a separate stylesheet for IE so those people can have a version of the site, and Mozilla-type browsers will get the best / original look.
