having a hard time deciding which one... mainly cuz i'm still a tmobile user. at&t is a good deal more expensive than what i have now so would rather stay in the affordable range.
anyone have a G1? any good advice?

my iPhone makes a g1 look like a gNONE!
OHHHHHH!!!!

Just when I think a thread like this is a joke, that little voice in my head is telling me "hey, you, it's probably true. some people fall for some pretty awful products."

iphones make me cringe... ppl wield them like status symbols. that's annoying... lol. the G1 looks like ass, but it's still on my network. and at&t's plans are a rip off. unless someone can show me a good deal with that, i feel like im stuck with the G1 beast.

if you're comparing a phone to the iphone and want something like the iphone but not an iphone... you'll lose every time!!!
The G1 is clunky and ugly... just get the iphone... seriously. you'll know you made a great decision within 24 hours. If you go G1, you'll be sorry...

I will never be able to go back to a lesser phone after having the iPhone.
- and that is just it... it's so much more then just a phone. I'll buy a new one every 2 years from here on out...joyride

I don't understand the G1. it's just such an odd mechanism in terms of how it opens, and, IMO a total failure in what could have otherwise been a good phone. Why, in this day of multiple phones coming out with full touch screens, did they put actual buttons, that require a giant screen to slide open, the user to turn the phone perpendicular to it's typical portrait mode, to type and yet somehow grip the phone on both sides at the same time?
I just don't get it. If you really want to get down to aesthetics, it looks like the grabbed the buttons from a phone from the early 90s. Why is iconography something that all phone companies but Apple seem to overlook?
Ugly, cumbersome, odd. I don't really see much else I could say about it, and that's without even comparing it to an iphone.

fuck off mg - the phone is open source which is awesome, the apps are free/ and pretty badass. it is only going to get better, but it is pretty dam good now

na - but the dude hates on it in every thread. it is a good phone.

"Could you not afford the iphone BonSeff? Or did AT&T charge you a deposit and you backed out?"
funny that you fanboys think that the iphone is the ONLY option for a smart phone
- mg330
I don't think that at all BonSeff. The iphone is a great device for some people, and some people would't get anything out of it like that would a Blackberry or something similiar.
My main question in this thread is why couldn't the G1 have a touch screen keypad? Why does it need to operate like a Sidekick?
- BonSeff0
i dig the buttons- that is a big reason why a lot of BB users aren't down with the storm, they like a real qwerty keyboard. it is just a pref thing
- BonSeff0
also, asking me about affording an iphone? really?
that personifies the attitude most of you fanboys have

^ i agree
too bad their touch screen seemed to be designed without touch in mind. acts just like a touch screen kiosk. i do like the touch/push function though for selecting things

i heard iPhones make you sterile, so I'd go for the g1 if I were you. It might not be as cool, but at least you'll be able to have kids if you want.
- not true. i made a baby a month after i picked mine upbrandelec

and the g1 has a copy & paste feature

g1 by far is a better starting platform than the iphone. I will say the iphone has a really nice display and it is simple. But to be honest I am not only a designer, I also like function and my money goes to a g1. The future is better thought out.
