I've been rebuilding the 2nd floor of my house for a year now (permit/paperwork issues added probably 6 months of delays), and we're about 3/4 done (1 room entirely finished, the other just needs drywall and flooring). Reframing walls and ceilings, lighting, insulation, electrical, whatever. It's so nice to work on something big and physical. The Make stuff is awesome - it's jsut way above my level, particularly on alot of the really tiny fiddly stuff.

There was pressure moldable wood from Uk while back. I cant find the link anymore but with any pressure it will bend and retain its shape.
I seen them make a perfect wooden circle ring thats 5x5 with infinite amount about length.

Another good article here:
http://www.allwoodwork.com/artic…Someone mentioned bendable plywood, a nice description of which is here:

- i have a strong urge to go skating :)
too beautiful to skate though.pizzafire - Designer is Thomas Heatherwick. He also made a beautiful bridge in London that rolls up after you cross it.

The two methods of bending wood I'm most familiar with are steam bending and cold bending (layered glue up).
For steam bending, I have several articles at home. One from Wood Magazine, of which there is a complementary video available from their site:
http://www.woodmagazine.com/wood…Let me know if you need me to dig out the article.
For the cold bending approach you need to build a form and have the appropriate clamps on hand to tighten it up. Not only is this a legitimate approach, it is actually one of the best approaches. You have a lot of control over the final shape while not pissing around fire, steam, etc.
Excellent cold bending article:
http://www.popularwoodworking.co…Again, I have a ton of resources on this subject, too, so if you have specific needs, let me know.

Book on Frank Gehry's bent wood chairs are good source to learn from.

different woods react differently to methods. I used thin layer of oak and heated a metal barel and bent it on top but it was very fragile.
I would only use plywood types on vaccum and female / male clap bending.

You can also form veneer to foam core with distinct shape.

Steam bending you can do at your bathroom but its very time consuming. and you need the right mold and claps increments.
I would suggest vaccum modeling. You can rent the set. The issue would be making the mold.
Gluing the layers do not work with out equal pressure. And simple clap system do not give equal pressure unless you have torque measured air gun or wrench to support it.

I'm hoping to make my own laminates - setting good quality veneers on tech-quality ply core, using a CAD-designed shaping frame, gluing them in, layer by layer. A carpenter chum looked at me aghast when I asked him if he knew how to steam-bend wood!

For vaccum molding, look for woody called bendy wood
