Anyone have a Sony LCD tv?
I'm possibly picking one up today and need to know something: Can you run multiple devices IN and set the sound output to only use Surround Sound?
Ex: Currently my dvd player uses an optical audio cable to go to my surround sound system. It does not go through the TV. It's also an upconverting player, so it has an HDMI output.
If I run that HDMI to the TV, and then use the optical audio output of the tv to the surround sound, can I bypass the TV sound entirely? Is there a choice in the TV to "use external sound only" or something like that?
Also have my 360, so if I can run both dvd and 360 as hdmi to the tv, and optical audio out, that will be great.
Thanks!

I believe this is possible. TV should have optical in and out, but probably only one, so you will have to decide between xbox or dvd. Though, the xbox does a nice job of upscaling (i'm only 720p though - be sure to put your settings to the prop. resolution), so if your not using blue ray dvd you could just cut the dvd player out all together.
Personally I run everything straight to my stereo receiver, and reveiver is set to play whatever is on my tele.

I dont think you need to do HDMI for your xbox, your high def cable should be enough. Do you really think it makes a difference?

- I use the HD cable, my friend has the hdmi and I cant even tell the difference.********

your xbox should have come with the previous one - it also has the optical out. I would only recomend the HDMI if you are planing on getting a larger (40"+) 1080 set.

Probably getting a Sony 40" Bravia 1080p

Yes to all of your questions I have a Bravia and it's awesome...

Cool thanks. So, tparsons, OK to go with the XBox HDMI cable?

yep...

tparsons, just to clarify - the sound thing will work? you can bypass the tv sound and go straight to a separate system?
If so, that's great - can go to surround for tv tuner, xbox and dvd.

Yes you can bypass it. I have my setup that way and the internal speakers are shut off.

Awesome. I've found one for low $900s and I'm excited, I trust Sony more than just about any other brand and I may as well splurge a few more than I was planning on.

It's this one as well - do you happen to have an S series or have seen them before?

This is the one I have....
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravi…I researched quite a bit before getting it. Haven't found one issue that I didn't like yet.
