...you find a wallet with ID, credit cards, etc. in it and $500 in cash.
do you return the wallet and keep the cash and hope the karmic gods don't tear you a new one? or do you do the right thing and resist the temptation of easy money and return the wallet as you found it?

You don't take the cash THEN return it! You keep the cash and throw the rest away!

keep the cash
and throw the wallet out.

$500 isn't worth my conscience.

keep the money. mail them the empty wallet with a note inside saying "be more careful, i know where you live now". spend the cash entirely on some elaborate, mischievous plan to punish the person who lost it so that it doesn't happen again.

Fedex the wallet and money back to the owner, karma has nothing to do with it!

I'd take 200 bucks and ask for a 300 dollar reward.
This way everybody wins :o)

take the money and buy a disposal camera and take the wallet on a vacation and take pics of the wallet at all the vacation spots and then send the pictures to the owner of the wallet... with a thank you note for the holiday pics...

^^believe it or not someone did that to me with my garden squirrel .
They stole it at a large bbq, I didn't notice it was gone until I got a letter in the mail written by squirrel about his adventures at the horse racing track, accompanied by a photo of him in front of the track.

only a criminal would have 500 bucks in his wallet, so i'd keep it as payback

Send the money, cards and ID back, keep the actual wallet.

This actually happened to me. There wasn't much money in it but it was a nice wallet. Still my wallet today. Not so nice any more, it's years old. It belonged from a dick that went to my school so I felt no remorse.

This has happened to me too and I gave it back.

probably contact the owner and return it all.....
still, if you carry around 500 in cash in your wallet, you are obviously willing to take the risk of losing it, if I found it on wall street I'd probably have serious doubts about returning it. In the end my conscience would win it though

Is this a lifeline exercise, Miss Farmer?
