Nvidia 6600Gt sec monitor issue

  I used to get this back in the days when i plugged in a secondary on my nvidia 6600gt. The 2nd one goes down in contrast and brightness. Like everything is on 50% I found some posts about it on the internet back then but no real solutions.

  And the other day it happened to a mac book pro when i plugged in a monitor. Its quite a hard topic to google and i haven't been able to find any solutions. I knew that it was an nvidia driver/hardware issue back then but i had no idea the mbp would suffer from it too.

  Have anyone had this happen to them? It just sucks having the mpb monitor stay in shitty contrast just because i plugged in an external once.
