"Many "reply all" fiascos result in mere embarrassment, but American diplomats have been told they may be punished for sending mass responses after an e-mail storm nearly knocked out one of the State Department's main electronic communications systems."

This doesn't happen as much on e-mail anymore in my office, however, voicemail is something that still mystifies most people.
Those are hilarious though.
You have 1 voicemail usually by some VP type who figures since it's not e-mail, they can figure it out - end up sending a voicemail to everybody in the company ... followed by 30-40 reply-alls of people, just as miffed on how to use voicemail by going... "Uh, I'm not sure I was supposed to be on that voicemail. Thought you'd want to know." Failing to realize no one knows who the hell they are if they don't say their name.
Followed by the, "You know you hit reply-all, you could have just replied back to [so and so]."
A literal blitzkrieg of voicemails come in.

"Anyone who disregards these instructions will be subject to disciplinary actions,"
...
That's kind of taking it overboard, considering it's their initial genius of creating massive distribution lists and not knowing how to send those e-mails out in the first place. There are ways of combating against the reply-all to distribution lists ... what are they called? Oh yea, distribution lists! Except since you're a fucking internal company you put them in the BCC and in the TO address you have a TSS, or the person who sent it.
They should be the ones punished. That our not having a system set up that is outside of e-mail for messages that need to go to thousands of people.

A.K.A. If I got that e-mail about a fucking "disciplinary action", I would reply-all with the above reasoning.
- agreed. it's the only logical response7point34
- I know. Which would also explain my blatant disregard for most anything told to me by my boss and others.********
- I have no idea how I have a job, haha. The running joke is that I treat my boss like Ned Flanders, and worse.********
- The jokes always make me lose it, but they aren't really far off, and some of them did happen.********
