Dont do ANY transaction via paypal if it does not include eBay. You wont get your money back.
I got scammed $500 which I thought was legit since it was through paypal.
The guy sent money to me, and after I sent it, he immediately declared that the product didnt arrive / empty box etc. I went though a lot of hassle and never recovered the money. Also, I sent money to this guy in NJ, and he did the same, he never sent anything back. Both times, I had to call the local police (of where the guy lives) but they couldnt help me because paypal does not release any real info about the person. And local police here could not help because I had no info at all.
only way for any body to obtain info was get a court order but that couldnt happen with out probable case discovery from the police. Only way was to contact the FBI cyber crimes unit which they file it but does not take immediate action.
When I talked to them, they said that it always happen but it is hard deal with because the amount is too small. But they do track the account to see if there are multiples and try to make a case. Usually doesnt because the cost of doing investigation versus the amount stolen is not justified.

EVEN WITH LOCAL, USE CASH!!
There was a guy who climed that I didnt show up for exchange and filed a claim even before I got to meet him. He basically filed a claim right after he sent the money, lucky I been checking my emails.

yeah, he is the one that should be worried mostly, not you.
You will only send the bass guitar once payment is completed and cleared!

craigs list is for local listings...

Secondly, confirm everything with your bank about getting the payment. I would still be suspicious. I have heard of stories where it looks like it has cleared but it's still a scam.

so no body know anything about postal money order??
- fusionpixel0
I would try but if he sends you an obscure email address or link then you know for sure its a scam. Sometimes they send you a link like
Subject : Mr X your payment has been cleared
Body: for more information visit the link below
paypal.blah.comand of course we know its a fake site...

paypal will say the transaction has cleared and will reverse it when they find out it is bogus!

As long as he's ok with shipping and WYSIWYG. Have you checked the PayPal FAQs?

I wouldnt even do it at all. Not worth the potential headache
And dealing from Granada is VERY suspect

I wouldn't trust paypal either. I would recieve the money then place a hold on your account so Paypal can not withdraw. Paypal loves to do things without bothering to ask you about it. That way if this guy hijacked someone's account or something then the situation will still suck but at least you won't be left without holding anything.

Put an ad in your local paper that says: Will trade crack for a laptop.
