I am a big fan of grid based layouts and bright colors so the BBDK page was right up my alley. Nice font choice for the navigation as well. Their recent work for Luigi Bormioli is very nice - clean, understated, but smoothly executed. Their work for Mark White Kinetics and Beautiful & Useful follow in the same vein. Looks like silhouettes could be BBDK's calling card....

kalkal, lately I've been really attracted to garish colors, i feel like its getting trendy though...

From a readabilty point of view, it's damn hard, I think it really detracts from the work too
- Rushmore0
kalkal, yeah I see what you're saying I suppose it could work just as well if the "content boxes" transitioned to black when you viewed one of the work slideshows. Maybe white with black lettering in the work space only...

Hey guys. Thanks for the kind words and valuable input. I'm always open to constructive criticism and I'll certainly consider your thoughts. Good input. It's time for an update anyways. It's one of the many things on my list.
Regrettably, I don't spend as much time here as I once did thanks to the responsibilities of BBDK and my blog, Thinking for a Living. Nonetheless, QBN is always one of my haunts and one of the places that ignited my passion for online design discourse. I've made many fine friendships here as well.
I'm still around...knock on my web stats and I'll always hear you.

The Luigi site is built all without Flash, which is more impressive to me, refreshing as well.

I'm really proud of the Luigi Bormioli site. Part of our strategy was to avoid the usage of Flash - both for the obvious reasons of SEO and accessibility - as well as to illustrate that we were not a Flash site firm. It was the best thing for our client as well as our team, both internal and external. The site was developed by User Experience Strategist, Ian Coyle of Superheroes. His technical expertise certainly offered a wealth of options in our quest for simplification. You can read more about the project here:

As for silhouettes being one of our hallmarks, I suppose that could be true. There's something to be said for the simplification of things to form alone. Clarity and brevity are always one of our goals so this solution is a common theme in our work.
Color is a passion. I always say that my favorite color is all of them (although not at once, that would make brown).

testpilot: Thanks for the case study/write up link. Its a good read with solid insights. Also, whatchu' got against brown?
