what software would be best to create 3D type in?

Whats your platform and budget? Most 3D packages are good for it

What's the best one? I have a few at home and at school, and I'm interested in 3D text as well.
- kalkal0
I don't really think there is such thing as a "best one" as long as you have apps with good modeling tools, you have a good app for 3D text. Unless you're looking for easy to use?

they all do the same thing

- this message board is meant for the dissemination of ideas and information. let her ask questions dbuberdesigner

- I'm just emphisizing the fact that most 3D apps do this, and they do it well.kalkal

Is there anything for the Mac that's better? Or are they all the same?
- Generally, they are the same unless you're looking into making an epic movie...kalkal
- 3dmax is not available for mac i don't think so you can rule that outKwesiJ
- Unless you use bootcamp... I personally find 3dsmax the easiest to learn and I've tried them allkalkal
- assuming you are actually paying for it (like I do), then Max is over pricedformed
- and I use max for my businessformed

to echo Jaline, my operating system is mac os x (leopard)
easy to use/learn would be great, but quality and capability also important.

I'm not that experienced in 3d, but when I use it I mainly work on illustrator imports I simply extrude.
And I have to say that cinema 4d smooth modificator is great (never found how to do that quickly in 3DS), it helps a lot to have that tiny rounded border which makes the light shining on the corner.
As I learned 3ds max before, I make the extrude in C4D then put it in 3DS to dinish the work.So if I had to start from zero, I would leran Cinema4d.

I use lightwave. The work flow is a bit strange but once you get the hang of it, it works well and is quite powerful. It's still used in tv and movies. 3D Studio Max crashes a lot, usually when you use spinners to adjust values.
