so what when the drives full? Erase and start over?

so my drive is full and TM just tells me error, theres no room to do stuff. Apple say it wont delete things by itself, 'thats not how it works'.

when your disk is full it just deletes the last weekly backup...
in my example, today Dec14 is my last weekly. it will be probably be deleted soon and next week i will only be able to go back as far as Dec21.
have you used the Time Machine yet to restore?

yes a few times. Mine wont delete whats there already

TM won't delete your oldest backup? that's weird. i have no idea then. does your TM prefs/ options show a checkbox for warning when disk is full?
i can't remember but maybe there was an option to allow the auto-delete when you initially setup your TM disk... ?
or a disk permissions conflict? i dunno.

i dunno atkinson... sounds like you're erasing all and starting over.
