I know this is completely random, but does anyone know how are those lights that project letters (or logos) on the walls (or floors) at events are called?
Its like a reflector with some sort of template attached over the light.
thanks in advance!

SourceFour?
You can use any elipsoidal projector as long as it's got a gobo-holder.

I just learned about gobos recently.
Would chossy, or anyone else knowledgable (brownnosinghere) know of any non-metal materials these things are made from?
After speaking with someone 'in theatre' just before christmas, I was thinking it could be an revenue avenue I could explore, but I don't have the means to cut metal, and am unsure as to what else is typically used.
Thanks!

Nairn, you've got to use metal for gobos. The heat generated by a 500 or 750 watt lamp is incredible. Most gobos burn out after a while as well, depending on the length of time that they're used and at what power output from the lamp.
We used to make custom gobos using old aluminium sheets from photo-litho but they're a PITA to cut w/ an xacto. You can use tin pie plates as well but generally only get about six hours at 100% from the lights.

Aye, this is what I suspected - I just wondered whether there was a heat resistant plastic that was used... but then that's the sort of material that's likely uncuttable by laser, so I'd be back to square one anyway.
Thanks again, Pylon!
*adds photolithography to list of things to dick around with this year...*
- hahahaha.
Have you tried... *girls* Nairn? Not for gobos, I mean. ;)******** - They're those pretty, sweet-smelling things - out there, outside - that drive me nuts, right? No.. I haven't.Nairn
- Wait till summer and give 'em a go. Way more fun than molten or sharp metal. =)********
- hahahaha.
