Going for the first time Feb. 24 - Mar. 2. Flying from LA...staying in Hampstead. What do I need to see and do? Tips needed.
- epill0
Hampstead is a nice area with huge mansions right?
- CincodeMayo0
Apparently...all I know is Ricky Gervais has a house there. I'm staying with some family friends and apparently their house was built in 1723 or something like that.
- That will be haunted then, watch out for the ghosts.********
- 1723, eh? So it's a recent build as far as The Old Country goes...Nairn

you should go for a walk on the heath at midnight.
- CincodeMayo0
For sure! I think they live along the Flask Walk! I don't really know what that means but I'll be sure to find out.
- ignore the bit about midnight, unless you want a blowjob from a man you have never met before.********
- the flask is fairly famous pub in highgate, which is on the other side of the heath.********
- I like that pub. Useless fucking bar staff won't even mix a cocktail however. but at least they have a covered with heaters for smoking********
- hapeterorpete
- bleh.. outdoor area for smoking********

I lived across the road from Flash Walk for several years. I really miss Hampstead and being so close to the Heath (no gay sex jokes pls)

Ok, so do the Flask Walk, just not at midnight with strange men. Got it. What else do I have to do/see?

Anyone ever been on the Boddington's Brewery tour in Manchester? Any other good brewery tours closer to London?
- never been on a brewery tour that hasn't bored the piss out of me.********
- Free beer at the end of every tour I've been on. What's not to like?CincodeMayo
- i would rather just go to the pub and pay for it. saves time.********
- Guinness Brewery tour is like €16.
Free pint at the end, though..rafalski - That's a few hours from Hampstead...JerseyRaindog

Just moved here myself, come check out shoreditch and see a bunch of QBNers lurking around looking shifty, giving each other secret hand shakes.
- I moved recently too, but I live in the west. No secret handshakes hereflashbender
- yeah watch where you go in shoreditch, most of it is like the west end nowisakosmo

214 bus is a single decker and you'll stand less of a chance of getting bothered by knife-welding maniacal teenagers.
- only old people get single decker buses. i think that is because they all seam to stop outside medical centres.********

Worth taking a day trip to Manchester? Boddington's and Man. U Mueseum. Is it worth the trip? Virgin Trains has a rate of about $45USD round trip.

Go to Spitalfields market on a Sunday, go for a pint in the 10 Bells, walk down Fournier Street, Markets around the back of the Truman Brewery, Pint in Vibe bar and 93 feet east, have a curry on Brick lane.
- I'd probably have a curry anywhere but Brick Lane these days tbh.********
- and also, fuck the Ten Bells and the trend muppets that frequent it.********
- You know, I pretty much agree BUT its an experience. Esp. the history of the 10 bells. You ever had a curry in Tayab, nr Whitechapel hospital? Best.Gordy22

- Yeah, I've heard that. Probably skipping that...someone mentioned some other stones?CincodeMayo

if you're going to be in hampstead, walk through the heath during the day and once you're on the other side check out Highgate Cemetery. Crazy cool victorian graveyard - if you're into that type of thing. It's 5pounds for a tour.
It really boils down to what you want to do since there's about a million things to do.

Skt is right.
Skip through Hamstead Heath in the evening.
Might bump into George Michael !

do the monopoly board - it will get you around although you might want to skip the "drink at every stop" as yr likely to not to finish

sir john soane's museum in lincoln's inn fields is a must see. it's stuffed full of interesting artifacts and artworks (hogarth's rakes progress in a mad room with rotating folding walls, a dead monk in the cellar to name but two) - fabulous, and free...
the eagle pub on farringdon road - the original gastropub that started the whole damn craze off... or if you want a really stylish pub then the Black Friar at the other end of the road (not open sundays tho...)
east london markets on a sunday - great for a wander
and and and... get a guidebook

Good pub quiz at the Oxford in Kentish Town on Tuesdays, I'll be there.
- flashbender0
and if you are going to do touristy things, plan on going to the national portrait gallery and have afternoon tea at the restaurant on the top loor - you'll get a nice cuppa and a great view.
Also play "spot the foreigner" in the galleries, this is not a hard game as pretty much all the old english guys look the same.

There's no such thing as a good pub quiz - merely an annoyance of some dick with microphone distracting you from the otherwise important business of getting drunk and having a conversation.
They should be banned.
