Sometimes I feel like the dreams I have the night before set the mood for the next day. Is it really possible to control what you're dreaming?

I have the opposite feeling a lot; that the dream creates the next day

Yes but not everyone can do it. It has to do with how your brain behaves when sleeping. Generally lucid dreaming happens to people who don't sleep very well to begin with.

yes it is, I do it often ,
most of the time it is flying, flying around, just starting to jump and next thing you know I am off ,
also during nightmares I usually level up and start shooting lightning out of my ass

It happened more often when I was younger. I'd have dreams that people would normally think of as nightmares, but I could control everything, so it was actually fun.

I've been having them since I was a kid. Not quite on demand, but I have them a few times a month. Being ill or over tired tends to bring them on.
Jolly good fun.

Something that seems to happen to people I know:
Person 1 dreams that person 2 did something in their (person 1's) dream. Person 1 reacts/acts a different way towards person 2 the next day, especially if person 2 betrayed person 1 in the dream (such as: person 2 cheated on them).

I can wake up and then go back into the dream and control it.
Sometimes freaky – but cool, non the less.- I can remember the dream for about 1 minute after I wake up, and then it's gone.Jaline
- lucid dream tea is interesting;-)

- You need time + lots of sleep + waking yourself up at 4am and such. Good luck with that!********

what I dream controls what happens to other people the next day, bloody unnerving reading the news in the morning sometimes, I'm telling you
- mean you a bit psychic ;-)alicetheblue

- this happens to me as well, but I think it's more an example of time being illusory than one thing controlling the other********

I dream all the time. Most of the time it's a meaningless event where it doesn't effect me - but I had one last week where I woke up fuming mad and now last night's has me confused and emotional...
And I always have very vivid strange dreams on nights where there is a full moon.

Indeed, sometimes I have weird traumatic dreams and the next day I am fully weirded out by them especially if it an emotionally painfull dream. Often I can be having a dream wake up then go back to sleep and pick up exactly where I left off :D. I am pretty sure I dream every night I had a fantastic car dream the other night here it is below.
I dreamed that someone during the night had taken the engine out of my car and put in something mental from fucking star trek into the engine bay and it kicked ass, then I had sex with a girl on the hood of the car.
lots of dreams involve girls in some form or another for example, snakes, big black holes, huge burning bushes, burgers, hot dog buns etc. etc.

the lucid dreaming thing is pretty awesome...didn't realize it was in any way triggered by not getting proper sleep..but i suppose thats probably true...
I get them (lucid dreams) usually a few times a month...
every single time is excellent....and like chossy mentioned, if i accidently wake up or anything like that, i can usually drift right back and start it up where i left off....
generally they involve flying of some kind...or in some cases, changing the course of what started out as a nightmare....(if you're in a nightmare, then suddenly realize you're dreaming, its freaky but can be very very cool...like starring in your own adventure movie...you suddenly realize nothing can really hurt you, and you feel, i dunno...a bit like 'oh yeah?...lets DO this mother fucker!' kinda vibe....suddenly the monster or bogey man, bully or whatever that was scaring the piss out of you a second before, now that you're in control more or less, you can kick it's ass...
then you see pretty girl and have sex...
look...i'm not gonna lie to ya.....that happens too :)
