Apple care problem

My MBP [late 2008] heats up when I unplug it and close the lid. It heats to such an extent that the fans kick in and stay on untill I open the mac and force power off - black screen.
I called Apple Care and am seeing a genius tomorrow. They reckon it's a hardware fault and might have to take the mac for two weeks, without a temporary replacement. I use the mac everyday for work, what goes! Anyone else had this issue of non-replacemt with AC?

They only ever do straight up replacements within a 30-40 day window of your purchase, after that it's called AppleCare, because they Care for your Apple. It sucks, but it is the norm and if you have a serious hardware issue you likely just saved yourself a ton of $.

nah, looks ok.. I once had the problem too, and closing one task fixed it.

damn it, so probably is a fault. It's a nightmare they don't offer a replacement while it's being fixed, I think that's a pretty shocking bit of service, my 2p!

sure, I realised today there is a crack in the outer shell too, very small hairline, but fooking annoying on a 2k computer!
