my 3 year old son got out of his seatbelt once. scared me shitless.
of course i was going 65-70 miles an hour down a highway and ofcourse he thought it was funny when i sternly told him to put his arms back in the belt.
i slammed on my brakes and pulled off the road. lucky i didn't blow a tire.
- i've had this happen a couple of times with my youngest somehow wiggling his way out of his beltlocustsloth

Here it's illegal to drive without buckling up. Even in the backseat. Hell, they're there for a reason. I think if you don't do it or teach your kids you're an irresponsible asshole.

i buckle up in a very none obvious way once i see a cop car.
like loading an elephant gun in the presence of a tyrannosaurus rex

I won't drive until everyone buckles up. My friends give me all sorts of crap but I just don't understand their reasoning.

Unless you're in the back, I couldn't care less if you buckle up or not... your stupidity really.
- Your car's windscreen totalled by a flying cranium though.Jorp

in maryland you have to buckle up in the fornt or you will get a ticket.
even the passenger riding shotgun has to buckle up or you can get a ticket for his ignorance too.

yeah, most cars these days make it annoying not to, but i usually do anyway. it's easy enough. people must be well aware of the dangers, so the rationale against it is just playing the odds and being a gambler i suppose. i don't wear a bicycle helmet, and looking at the statistics, i'd just have to be really unlucky to suffer a head injury that a helmet would have prevented. driving is far more dangerous though.

Always, without question. It's really stupid not to.
Two years ago I was traveling with my wife and son and we were involved in a serious accident. Thanks to seatbeats, a car seat and the modern safety items built into cars (air bags, crumple zones) the three of us got off without anything more than scraps, bruises and the shit scared out of us.
The lady attending to us in the ambulance couldn't believe we were fine. I said, "well, we were buckled up", etc. She said, "you'd be surprised how rare it is to come upon an accident where everyone is wearing a seatbelt."
Why!?

My sister died in a car wreck in 1995, because she did not have her seat belt on. I am adamant about anyone in any car I'm in wearing their seat belts.

wow... just was on the highway here west of st. louis... it's sleeting out...... encountered a massive backup on the highway caused by 12 cars and 2 tractor trailers... there were two vehicles completely under one of the trailers and about 20 fireman working at getting the people out... and just a shitload of cars tossed about all over the place... some you could see entire roofs ripped open where they had just gotten people out...
... sobering shit.

I do it by habit.
Once in a while I don't do it if I'm sitting in the back, squished between 3-4 people. They are also uncomfortable, but I use one 99% of the time.
