In regard to web-design.
I know absolutely nothing other than flash, I only do it for pals and small freelance things, but I tell folk right at the start 'I can only build you a flash site and if you want to change things yourself after it's built you had better learn flash'
- learn HTML. It aint that hard now IE6 is on its way out. Hell a HTML site without IE6 support is kinda on par with a Flash site in usability terms

it seems like a lot of the web is getting more modular in general and its hard for flash to participate in this ... I think open social is a great concept if people actually use it.. for example you can use google charts in your site .. or embed a youtube video .. or use a 3rd party mailing list etc ... it's possible in flash .. but more difficult to do

yeah if it is difficult we shouldn't bother; Xmas starts here!

How's your AS3 adoption? Still using AS1 telltargetting, aren't you? :)

webpages should be html/xml/css/js nowadays.
flash just for the part of content that needs flash (media, animations, sometimes to display the right font).
the decision should be taken according to the design of the website. If you can build it in html/xms/css/js, just don't use flash.
If you make it flash, make sure searchengines can index the content.

Please rant on uan, if there's anywhere you might be heard, it's here.

If only Flash had proper browser integration, it would've ruled. Things like flexible opening in a new window/tab, saving images, back/forward buttons and proper deep linking - these are the reasons Flash != web today.

kontain.com looks slick, any more sites like that?
I always had a sweet spot for http://fotologue.jp/

The pros vs the cons are different with each individual project a tad naive to just consider flash or html
- agree...it is better to focus on the design...and then decide for the best suited technology for realisation.uan

aside from SEO, why not use it?

Flash is great for entertainment sites, but not much else, in my opinion. HTML/CSS is most often more accessible and flexible (from a user perspective).

The internet will be known as the intervideowebâ„¢ in 2030.
Will all be video - you will not require css and html in 2030.

Flash allows for a good storytelling experience through guided user interaction because of its entertainment value - if done correctly. There's a time and place for it, and there's a time and place for XHTML/CSS/JS/etc. I personally get annoyed when I'm looking for quick information and have to sit through long animations or load times, but when the medium can do the talking more than words can, Flash is goood mang.
