I'm sure it might not be one you would want to wear at the Family Holiday dinner though....

I've only seen three of his prints in life.
And they were fucking amazing. Detail that reproductions can't even come close to capturing.

had his twin brother as my painting mentor at syracuse - both of them are brilliant.
would love to get out there for that show - damn

jerome witkin is his brother - if you don't know him get to know him

I love his brothers work. I remember him saying in a interview that if that his work was rooted in heaven while his brother is in hell. Such a intersting family.

I have been looking for this painting he did but I can't find it. It depicted a priest in a confessional who was consoling a victim of the bomb from WWII. And the priest in the confessional was the one who was all disfigured. It was a pretty strong statement.

yea man - unfortunately they despise on another.
listening to jerome talk about his childhood & joels initial interest in the dead is wild - stems back to a childhood experience.

I heard that the whole story that JP claims changed him was made up by himself. The one about the car accident and the severed head that rolled to his feet.
- i'm not sure that is the same one i heard -it involve they coming upon a dead body with their grandmother & it never be fully explained but more addressed as 'that's not real'.byDefault00
- i thought his first sex experience was with some sort circus freak also.. :)loaf

- just to put this in perspective this piece is like 9ft tall ... unreal in personbyDefault00
- that looks killer, I haven't seen that series.********
- what style do you consider your work?********
- not sure as i have gone more into web design & development then persuing painting - i focused on a figurative narative but in mix media rather then straight oils as jeromebyDefault00

So I attended the lecture yesterday at Photo LA. To my surprise JWP was real down to earth, laid back and had a good sense of humor. That was refreshing as all of the stories I have heard about him were of being a cantankerous prick.
One cool side note...
So me and my friend are waiting outside to get in. It was held in a very small theatre, one that you usually see bad home grown plays in or terrible improv. It held about 80 , but there were 200 crammed in easy. So, I notice a cute Hawaiian skater girl walk by to check in. Luckily I had my shades, because 10 seconds later who else but Maynard James Keenan stradles up next to me behind her and asks if everything was cool. Turns out he was also a fan of JWP and sat right behind us. It was a pretty cool day.

did he discuss what he's using for camera equipment? i know it's trivial but i'm curious
- ********0
he is using all his old school stuff. Large formats, what was surprising was that he said he uses no assistants for anything. It's all him.
Another shocker which took me back a little was that in his new work he has gone to digital manipulation. When he said that you could see some people in the audience react like their god has betrayed them.
He showed the 2 pieces in which he used it, but it was so minimal. He used it to achieve compositions that were impossible to do with just the camera. It was just a matter of time before he delved into that arena. But he did say he will not use it to be a main focus in his work.
