OpenOffice or Microsoft

Fair enough, thanks guys.
The only reason I'm asking is that I am now the proud owner of a MacBook... and I'm going through the process of installing software, configuring, etc etc...
I have a spare license for Office 2008 on Mac (no, you can't have it), but have been wondering whether to try and be less of a corporate bitch on this machine and go for free open source software where I can.
Is that a stupid thing to try and do? I've got the Office disc staring me in the face...

I installed and have been using OpenOffice for a few months now, without any problems. I'm fairly close to uninstalling Office 2007, or whatever install I have.
That said, I don't do anything terrifically complex with Access, PowerPoint or Word any more. Maybe if I did I might start hitting those incompatibility walls.

Microsoft Office is alot more feature-rich.
I don't think OpenOffice can really compete in that area. Though for free, it's definitely a viable solution if on a budget.

OpenOffice - uses up more memory on my Mac.
Microsoft Office - familiar; I know how to do nearly anything.
iWork - looks great; can't get the same results as I get in Microsoft Office. Very frustrating in specific situations. Maybe I need to read some tutorials. It's not bad...just for one or two things, I would rather use Office.

Sounds like a weird one I know, but if you had the choice, would you go down the open-source route, or the Microsoft route?
