I need a Mac Pro especially put together for Photoshop-usage. I'll be on the fence waiting for the new processor (hopefully January - February..)
I will not be doing any video editing, 3d etc..
Do you have any advice in regards to hardware and settings?
I was thinking on buying the standard one from Apple Store, and buying non-apple ram. Is it any point in upgrading the processor?

one advice:be hardcore.

ps needs the speeds, get the fastest you can afford.
also, getting a 15k boot drive will speed things up, as well as having a faster rpm scratch disk (if it's not your boot drive).
like you said though, get minimal ram from apple and max out with 3rd party ram.

just get the imac.

OWC has the best RAM prices around:

The imac is definately not an option, it looks good, but the glossy screen ruins it for me.
Is the 0.2 increase in processor speed worth the extra money?
- I don't think it's worth the 0.2 processor upgrade. Also, new imacs are only 6-bit screens. Be warned.********

Lots of RAM.
Fast processor.
VERY fast drives. Separate your OS/apps drive from your work drives. I don't reckon you'll need to worry about scratch disks anymore but if you're going to use them, get a fast one.

Should I get the Raid-card from Apple?
- Theoretically you'll see a speed increase there but I've never used a RAID for anything other than data-redundancy.********

i got the Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with two 23" screens just after the last update. Then I got 10GB of 3rd party ram and a second HD at 750GB
I have never been happier.
