You 'should' be already, imo, unless you're some hardcore screenprint fascist nutter.
They're just differing media, so a well-rounded designer should engage actively in understanding as much as possible about their job... if only so they can suggest more and more interesting options to their client... more dollar, and all that, eh?

Print is no where near "dead", however, it is in for a bit of a weight loss, say, 80% of its body fat.
