Do you believe in it and/or have you tried the experiment yourself?

there was also more recent research done on this that i didn't see mentioned there, can't remember who it was exactly, but they found that people aren't connected evenly, that the whole thing depends on "super" connectors, people that are connected to an unusually high number of people and bridge multiple smaller groups of people.

Most people are connected to a “super connector” by fewer than 3 degrees, so the theory still holds up. My wife is a super connector, since she was very popular in high school, was a music student in college, then became a music teacher, sang in bands and has worked in the music industry quite “high up”. Her Father also was one, as he worked in a “gas station”, was in a car club, a speedboat racing club and a tennis club, so she inherited a lot of his connectedness.

i think Gladwell mentioned something about the super connectors research in the Tipping Point.

“i can't visualise the chains from me to someone born in rural timbuktu”
Local doctor > Medical Prof at major University > Touring lecturer/Journal author (super connector) > Prof. at University you attended > Your old Biology teacher, for example.
