i'm doing a branding project for a band.
any tips?
besides the usual branding tips but maybe some that are more relevant to music..

branding a band sounds odd. it is not a company is it?
just make sure you have good contact with the client and make sure you are feeling their music/culture/ambition.

So, are they a pimpy thuggy kind of Rolling Stones thing, or a cute cuddly kind of Herman's Hermits sort of thing, or an over intellectual nervous dork Talking Heads type thing, or a we don't like you and you won't like us kind of Zappa thing, or a clubhouse music of hard partying motherfuckers kind of Funkadelic kind of thing, or a so complicated no one will ever understand it unless they're properly stoned kind of Yes thing?

I would look at great band logos and think about what makes them work. Review the other bands in their genre the same as you would do for a company but don't feel bound to do something similar.
