I know this is hopeless (and kind of sad) but this is not the end of the decade, that will be next year, 2010.
There was no year 0, the first year was 1, the end of the first decade was year 10. You may not like it that 2000 was the end of the 'nineties', but it was.
I remember saying all this at 'the end of the millenium' too. Mutter, grumble, time for more tea.
