Wee bro has asked me to recommend a camera in/around £80.
Anyone got any good recommendations before i go do some homework for him?
I've already said he should try for one with a larger lens (width) - couple of cm - rather than a pish 5mm lens. as it'll be better quality.

might get something better on eBay?

Nah, no bargains to be had on new stuff on ebay these days.
Cheapest going to pixmania or jessops or something like that. Its for his gf's xmas so prob doesnt want to buy her something second hand.
I've said to him to possibly go for panasonic cos of the leica lenses.
And not to go for sony due to their ownbrand memory sticks.Other than that id reckon that most cameras between £80-100 are pretty much all the same

I've got a panasonic lumix which is pretty decent, I'd recommend it. On the other hand I saw a Fuji offer in Boots a few days ago a camera for €149, whats that a little over £100 sterling? Seemed like a decent offer.
Id say for £80 its not going to be a fantastic bells n whistles camera though, so just see what the offers are.

yeah,
I told him that she'd be more interested in what it looked like and whether it fit easily into handbags/pockets without leaving unsightly bulges rather than bothering about the lens, megapixels or sensor sizes. As long as it takes alright pics, has zoom and a flash then that'd be her happy. Will check out the boots offer , cheers

perhaps you should of put that it needed to be new, and wasn't actually for your brother originally

Had Lumix, Canon, Nikon and Sony. I'd go with an Ixus.

Leica D-Lux 3 (slightly more than $125 haha) best camera Digital SLR on the market for the price though.

cheers fgor the ixus recommend.
the leica is way too expensive for him to be buying for his gf.
i did a lot of homework before buying my ricoh gx100 last year and the D-Lux 3 didnt really impress me that much.
people go on about it's pro's but really the images are no better or worse than from the gx100 and other cameras that are cheaper.
that included LOTS and LOTS of pixelpeeping on flickr at peoples pics with various cameras.
