Depends on the pitch. Existing client? Big project? Etc, etc...

new client but big job
and only have limited time to present cos of competition so just wandering if i use moodboards to go into detail about the research for my design solution

doesn't hurt no?

all the time, depending on the project, because I work with the moving image I often create fairly lo res basic animations and dvd's etc. to illustrate my point, but mood boards yes I have used them to great effect in the past and present.
- is more only the lines of the preparation and research once does that influences the final conceptWeLoveNoise
- that reads wrong
more down the lines of showing the user the prep and research ive doneWeLoveNoise - Right — you've got to demonstrate your clear understanding of the project.pylon

just time really
but one designer says he doesnt bother cos clients dnt really give a shit but i always thought clients took and interest in the creative process

But don't let them suck too much out of you if it is a pitch.

I'd go mood board and maybe some high-level stuff but nothing they can really walk away with, physically. If you're pitching against competition you may want to take it a bit further — because if you don't somebody else will.
Don't pitch them so much they don't need you. You've got to leave a bit of a cliff-hanger so that they come back for the rest.- yeah this sounds like the best option. especially considering i'm bidding for creative workWeLoveNoise
