yeah but you cant put text over images. or something along those lines.

nope.. doesn't work across a wide different range of email clients including Outlook so I would avoid using them.

I'd use a BG color, that's safer and more accepted. Obviously, you can do it, but the user is going to have to invite it, for security reasons. It's all about you understanding the E-mail clients that you design for in general.
