creative directors are basically able to see the emprerors new clothes.
they can spot bullshit and sift a speck of gold from hours of bullshit creative waffle - and are the ones (usually) best equiped to give guidance on how to develop that idea, and are there to make sure that the art direction and creative thought dont stray from the core creative strategy. (only because they have paid their dues for years as Art directors etc)
its a fucking insane job - you need to either have BAGS of conviction and experience to be able to call bullshit or have a shit load of luck - companies fail when their CDs are just creative directors in title and not in ability.
