Thinking of moving there next year, if I can get a green card that is.

beautiful. Seriously, I'd like to fuck with you, but it is one of most beautiful places on earth. 60 was the low in the winter, surf all year long, women, sushi, fishing, laid back, just great.
Now the down side, a city is a city is a city. There are some low down criminals (like any where), its very expensive, I believe the Lost cast is still mucking up hiking spots with camera crews.
Good luck with the green card

Kauai is a small island with a bunch small towns connected by a few roads. The most opportunities will be one the big island or Oahu. So maybe you could make connections there and work on Kauai? Kauai is incredibly beautiful, Hanalei Bay is a great little town.
Very laid back, I loved it there. Good luck!

I've been there for vacation 3 year in a row. Most recently Honolulu, Oahu which was my least favorite vacation spot but would probably be the best place to live if you still wanted a "city" lifestyle with opportunities to work anywhere but in the service industry.
