Has anyone been, live or has lived there? I'm going on Tuesday for the first time. Aside from the normal recommendations (Table Mountain, Boulders Beach, Shark Diving, etc.) I'd love to hear suggestions of what to do /where to go.

A classmate of mine is there finishing his five month internship. Rent a car, drive to the beach and other places.

I lived there for over 6 months back in 1999. It's quite a nice place. A little on the dangerous side in some areas, but that's everywhere.
Place I can tell you to definitely check out:
All of the vineyards and scenery in Stellenbosch, about 30 minutes or so outside the city.
Camps Bay, a nice suburbian area just outside the city, great food and beack
Victoria Waterfront, well you can't miss it, it's a world-class shopping center.
You'll stumble into other places as well. Drive the wine route if you can and head up the coast. I'd also go and see the whales at the Cape of Good Hope.
- I meant beaches. Shark diving, expensive and overrated. That's silly tourist stuff.********

Actually I lived in Namibia for 2.5 years. We'd drive down from Windhoek in rented BMW's and drive the cliffs down to Simonstown.
http://www.simonstown.com/So cheap back then. 1 USD = 10 Rand. And believe me, I lived it up, I'll never live like that again.

- Beautiful -- we were initially looking at trips that travel through Namibia as well but costs were a bit higher and trips were more scarce. I hope to make it there soon.
mdebranski - I built that porch and chairs with some Austrian friends of mine. :)********

The one thing that I can say, don't try and do too much. Just go and do a few things and relax. Eat well, drink well, meet nice people. You'll see a lot of poverty, don't feel bad about it, it's everywhere in Africa. It'll ruin your trip. Cheers..
