won't you make less money?

I'm making the opposite jump. Seems to be tougher my way than yours.

i once did an interactive piece to print.. was quite a hassle fitting all those tweens and frames on DIN A4!

big transition. why do you wanna get into print? will some of your clients ride with you through the hump? and give you healthy budgets to work with?
some super crappy jobs in print design. consider that your client's budget is split between your design fees and printing costs which can be huge and really limiting.
do it, but keep in mind that print design jobs aren't all 6 color diecut CD packaging, tshirts and the typography posters you see kids holding up in their portfolios.

also be aware of the steep and potentially humiliating learning curve of making your jobs look good off the press.
unlike screen/web, print jobs are definitely not wysiwyg.

why not do both ?

i'm inbetween print and interactive. I've been doing a lot of design that exists solely onscreen lately but ultimately at the end of the day I think some of the most rewarding work is something that is substantial that can be touched and held. Yeah sure print seems to require more production and scrutinizing than screen but to me it's rewarding. I guess i have always been a fan of the tangible vs. the intangible.
