Can somebody explain this saying to me. It doesn't make any sense.
From this saying I had always assumed haste meant to be more deliberate. But it also means to rush doesn't it.

speed helps at first but will make you feel like shit the next morning, so if you have a weekend to finish something, don't take it on a friday, do it on a sunday

you make better progress with a task if you dont try to do it too quickly

Sounds like someone with and attention deficit disorder

It means, make progress in a focussed, industrious and determined fashion (ie don't dawdle) but don't run around like a headless chicken, expending energy but acheiving nothing.

haste means you're likely to deliver second rate results, you'll have to do it again and it'll take longer
???
something like that

It means if you rush something, ultimately you'll fuck it up and correcting it will take much longer than it would have done to just do it properly in the first place.

It means, the more you try and rush the slower things actually get done. It's basically saying don't try and cut corners

Ahhhh I get it I guess. I always heard it as advising you to do something hastily (thinking it meant deliberate) rather than doing it speedily.
